A good set of Morning Habits has everything to do with learning how to eat intuitively, move your body joyfully and deepening your walk with the Lord!
I know that a good set of morning habits is key to a joyful life and it is something that I recommend to all of my clients.
When my clients develop a morning routine that works for them they continue to grow week after week!
How I Developed My Morning Habits
My morning habits began with adopting a very anxious dog that needed to run every day. My alarm clock went off every morning at 5 am to run the dog (so he wouldn’t destroy my house!). I got my coffee and drove to a park to let him run while I slowly walked laps around the track half asleep.
Getting up every morning to spend time with Jesus had always been a desire of mine and I quickly realized this was my push to do that. I began walking and praying, listening to sermons, and worship music. The simple morning habit of walking the dog turned into a daily conversation with the Lord.
Worship is the Foundation of my Morning Habits
On these walks I praised the Lord for the beautiful sunrises, I cried and called out to Him to strengthen me through grad school. I asked God to use me for His purpose and asked him to align my will with His as a crunched through the snow. As I prayed and stretched my legs I began to let go of my food and body struggle. While walking laps around the field and I received visions of my future that are developing today!
This simple morning habit has led to so much growth in my life. My spiritual walk, my career, my relationships, and my health are all better because of it. This habit has turned into a set of habits, a morning routine, that I am excited to share with you.
My Morning Routine
- Wake up between 5 and 5:30
- Get coffee and let the dog out
- Read my bible, devotionals, and Bible study
- Write out my prayer in my journal
- I usually get a lot of Ideas for Content for the blog, talks, my clients etc. in my study so I write those down in my journal
- Make my plan for the day with the Lord (if I get this far before the baby wakes up I’m sooooo excited!)
- If the stars align and the baby is still sleeping I take a shower and get ready while listening to worship music.
- When the baby ( I guess I need to start calling him a toddler… ) wakes up we cuddle and watch Joyce Meyers Enjoying Everyday life Show (sometimes the whole thing, sometimes just a bit, it depends on how long baby slept)
- We always eat a good breakfast (this is a non-negotiable for me) and on weekdays I get him off to preschool or he goes with my Aunt.
- I take the dog for a walk while listening to worship music or Reving the Word. This gives me energy, keeps me focused on what is truly important, and really sets the intention for my day.
- I start my workday. By now it’s about 9-9:30
Good Morning Habits are Somewhat Flexible
This is what things look like on a great day. Sometimes the baby wakes up before me, or at the beginning of my routine and I just go with the flow.
We watch Joyce, read his little Bible, and pray out loud together. I switch my routine to include the same things but on his level.
Sometimes I don’t get to plan my day until I sit down to work and sometimes I don’t get a shower. #momlife.
My morning habits never flow perfectly but I do my best to be consistent with them because I know that they have led me to where I am today.
Don’t Compare Our Morning Habits
Everyone’s morning habits are going to look a little different and that’s okay. I just think it’s important to have them! Through the different seasons of life I’ve experienced in the last 4 years my morning habits have adapted and grown.
When I was in my clinical rotations at the end of grad school my morning started around 4 am. When I was pregnant and nauseous the coffee no longer accompanied my mornings and I laid on the ground at the park in the fetal position while the dog ran.
After I had the baby the poor dog didn’t get very many walks, the coffee flowed freely and I spent time with the Lord cuddling Jack every morning.
This will look so different depending on your life. Please don’t begin comparing our routines. I encourage you to sit down with the Lord and prayerfully consider your morning habits. What is or isn’t serving you? Are you spending time with the Lord every day?
What do Morning Habits Have to Do With Intuitive Eating?
EVERYTHING! My morning habits revolve around Bible-Based self-care, aka soul-care. Which is necessary to keep us…
- In-tune with the Holy Spirit: Firmly grounded in who we are in Christ, what our purpose is in Him, and what things He wants us to be focused on.
- In-tune with our bodies: I explain in this article the importance of self-care in regards to your bodies hunger and fullness cues and other cues.
